When the web runs at the same meter speed, a shorter sheet length means the cutter must complete more cutting cycles per minute. This increases the demand on the cutting system, drive system, web handling, and overall machine stability.

For paper converters processing different sheet sizes, understanding this relationship is important when selecting a paper sheeter.

Consider a paper sheeter running at 300 m/min.

With a 1,000 mm cutting length, the theoretical cutting frequency is about 300 sheets/min.

With a 500 mm cutting length, the same web speed requires approximately 600 cutting cycles per minute.

This means that reducing sheet length can significantly increase the workload on the cutter and control system.

Therefore, maximum meter speed alone does not tell the whole story. The machine must also maintain stable cutting performance at the required cutting frequency.
