What is Cutting Machine?

Cutting machines are very common in most workplaces. They are used to work on metal, wood or other materials. These machines can cut, saw or grind. The part of the machine that shapes or removes the material is considered the point of operation. These areas should be avoided because if they can bend, shape or cut strong materials, they can do the same thing to your body. In fact, injuries from these types of machines are generally more severe than those from powered hand tools.

Benefits of Cutting Machine

Cutting speed: Traditional cutting technology is operated manually, and the cutting speed is slow. The cutting machine is controlled by CNC, and its cutting speed is very fast. The fiber cutting machine is twice as fast as the CO2 cutting machine of the same power, and 4-5 times that of YAG. The cutting speed is greatly improved, which is suitable for a large number of production and processing.

Cutting accuracy: The cutting accuracy of traditional cutting machines is low. The accuracy of the fiber cutting machine is within ±0.03mm. The fiber cutting machine is controlled by software. When cutting the material, we only need to import the drawings of the cut graphics into the equipment, and the path can be automatically set and cut by itself. The cutting accuracy has been greatly improved, the scrap rate of the cut products has been reduced, and the production cost has been saved.

Stability: The laser of the cutting machine has extremely high stability, and can work continuously for a long time during the working process. The service life of key components can reach 100,000 hours.

Energy consumption cost: The photoelectric conversion rate of the cutting machine can reach 30%, which is three times higher than that of the carbon dioxide cutting machine. Its power consumption is only 20%-30% of that of CO2 cutting machines, with low overall cost, energy saving and environmental protection.

Working Principle of Cutting Machine

Laser emitted from the laser, through the optical path system, focused into a high power density laser beam. The laser beam hits the surface of the workpiece to reach the melting or boiling point, and high-pressure gas coaxial with the laser beam blows away the melted or evaporated metal. When the beam moves relative to the workpiece, the material eventually forms a slit, thus achieving the purpose of cutting.

Cutting metal is to replace the traditional mechanical knife and invisible beam, high precision, fast cutting, not limited to cutting patterns, automatic typesetting save material, smooth incision, low processing cost characteristics, no mechanical stress incision, shear burr;High machining precision, good repeatability, do not destroy the material surface, NUMERICAL control programming, can deal with any plane, can be a large format whole board cutting, no mold opening, economical and time-saving.

Components of Cutting Machine

1. Machine bed part: The machine bed of the cutting machine, the mechanical part that realizes the movement of the X, Y, and Z axes, including the cutting work platform. It is used to place the workpiece to be cut, and can move correctly and accurately according to the control program, usually driven by a servo motor.

2. generator: A device that a laser light source. For cutting applications, except for a few occasions where YAG solid-state lasers are used, most of them use CO2 gas lasers or fiber lasers with high electro-optical conversion efficiency and high output power. Because cutting requires high beam quality, not all lasers can be used for cutting.

3. External optical path: Refraction mirror, used to guide the laser in the required direction. In order to prevent failure of the beam path, all mirrors should be protected by protective covers, and clean positive pressure protective gas should be introduced to protect the mirrors from contamination. A well-performing set of lenses will focus a beam with no divergence angle into an infinitely small spot. A 5.0-inch focal length lens is generally used. 7.5" lenses are only available for materials with thickness more than 12mm.

4. Numerical control system: Control the machine bed to realize the movement of X, Y and Z axes, and also control the output power of the laser.

5. Regulated power supply: Connected between lasers, CNC machine tools and power supply systems. It mainly plays the role of preventing external grid interference.

6. Cutting head: It mainly includes parts such as cavity, focusing lens holder, focusing mirror, capacitive sensor and auxiliary gas nozzle. The cutting head driving device is used to drive the cutting head to move along the Z-axis according to the program, and is composed of a servo motor and transmission parts such as a screw rod or a gear.

7. Operating table: Used to control the working process of the entire cutting device.

Maintenance methods of cutting machines

Correct assembly: Before installation, make sure that each component is intact. Correctly and carefully install the cutting torch, make sure that all parts are well installed, and ensure that the gas and cooling gas flow. Install all parts and place them on a clean flannel to prevent dust from sticking to the parts. Add appropriate lubricating oil to the O-ring, and the O-ring will become brighter, but not more.

Replace the consumables in time before complete damage: Due to severe electrode wear, the nozzle and swirl ring will produce uncontrollable plasma arcs, which are easy to cause serious damage to the cutting torch, so do not replace consumables. Therefore, when it is found that the cutting quality has declined, the consumables should be checked in time.

Clean the connecting threads of the cutting torch: When replacing consumables or daily maintenance inspections, be sure to ensure that the inner and outer threads of the cutting torch are clean, and clean or repair the connecting threads if necessary.

Clean the contact surface of the nozzle: In many cutters, the contact surface between the nozzle and the electrode is a live contact surface. If these contact surfaces are dirty, the cutter will not work properly and should be cleaned with hydrogen peroxide cleaner.

Check the gas and cooling gas every day: Check the flow and pressure of the gas and cooling gas flow every day. If insufficient flow or leakage is found, the machine should be stopped immediately to troubleshoot.

Avoid collision damage of the cutting torch: To avoid collision damage of the cutting torch, the program should be programmed correctly to avoid over-limit operation of the system. Installing an anti-collision device during the collision process can avoid damage to the cutting torch.
